History

The second largest convention facility in Georgia with a total of 400,000 square feet of space and featuring Georgia's largest ballroom at 40,000 square feet, the GICC is “a marvel of form and function,” offering “a new standard of convention” in aesthetics, amenities and accommodation. It has received rave reviews from conference and event planners alike who entrust the facility with high profile events—from addresses by the President of the United States; to televised auditions for American Idol; to international, national and regional conventions, conferences, trade and public shows.

In addition to its bold architecture and contemporary design, the facility features the latest technology with high-speed fiber-optic and telecommunications networks throughout the building as well as in-house audiovisual services. The 9,500+ square foot Culinary Arts Center includes a VIP tasting room and serves as the headquarters for exclusive full-service caterer, Proof Of The Pudding, Atlanta's premier catering company. A professional and seasoned staff completes the picture.

Today, the GICC is in the midst of a new phase of development: a $230 million, 29-acre mixed-use development featuring two on-site hotels and including more than a million square feet of office, retail and hotel and parking space. The two hotels will be a 403-room Marriott headquarters hotel and the other a 147-room SpringHill Suites hotel, both scheduled to open in mid-2010.

Shortly before the hotels open, in 2009, an Automated People Mover, the ATL SkyTrain, will begin operation, transporting visitors from the airport to the GICC, a two-minute trip that marks the GICC as America's only convention center directly connected to a major airport.
